Broken Infinity

The Infinite Number of Sounds are no more... but they didn't go down without a fight.

Unlike the mobius strip of ‘everything’ that is or isn’t which has no end, another glimmer of hope has been extinguished by the gray rusted fist that is Cleveland.

I suppose Cleveland shouldn’t be blamed entirely. However, the Infinite Number of Sounds have tried their hardest to bring creativity and a community of artists of all media to the crowned city of defeatism. Given how far and deep the roots have spread…there shouldn’t be an end.

This band/recording company/society has done everything an independent could possibly do and then some. Marketing itself in every form possible, their tentacles have infiltrated so many avenues of exposure that a cephalopod’s eight appendages would never be enough.

Let alone carpet bombing every college radio station and printed media establishment with their press kits, or networking and collaborating with a multitude of other musicians. The masterful use of the Internet has been their greatest tool and one of benefit of study by any independent artist.

At one point INS’ own smart website was full of contacts to help wayward musician’s chart their course out of obscurity. But not after INS took the initial leaps with determination.

To further spread their wings across the Internet they created the Experimental Behavior forum, one that “gathered forward-thinking underdog musicians, artists, writers and performers” together (until a certain egotistical, schizophrenic mongoloid ruined it). In its heyday there was a whole mass of creatives counter-balancing the Butt Rock and pretentious un-inspiring galleries that Cleveland is largely riddled with.

Infinite Number of Sounds brought to light many a Cleveland talent. Spoken word, themed dadaist salons, looped roots-rock, didgeridoos, musical saws, frying pan skull gongs, avant-garage IDM, Avant-chamber… which were all part of the same collective. Not limited just to Cleveland, they also brought ‘out-of-towner’s” to battle the land of classic rock with analog Drum’n’Bass and masked dudes who wanted to violate your pee-pee hole.

The guy’s here at Punch the Floor want to thank you personally for providing the many outlets of inspiration, the road trips to Columbus, the projected forgotten memories of our childhood, the amazing live analog breakbeats, the cerebral intelligence and the infectious melody of ‘The Modulator’.

We hope for all the best to Dave, Brent, Ron and Matt in their future endeavors. The course of INS may be finite, but the effects will certainly survive.
